The architect Studio GSA, Arch. Giancarlo Scognamiglio thought about Cotto Sannini as relevant element for the outer casing of the new headquarter of Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche “Polo Tecnologico” in Fuorigrotta, Naples.
The building shows double skin facades, where the Cotto typologies are diversified as well for shape as for orientation according to the functional spaces within the building.
These different types are introduced by steps and different directionalities based on building exposure, going from blind walls to the north to curtain walls, more or less shading, along the other sides, till joining the openings of the two building bodies, oriented to east and west, though sliding curtain wall panels of Cotto.
The concept of lightness is particularly marked by the empty full relation and the variation of the employed Cotto typologies. The project requirements expected singular characteristics, referring also to the supporting substructure, developed as extremely light and slim element, able to allow a quick installation and easy maintenance further on.
