At the Florence Opera House, designed by Studio ABDR of Rome, the National Achitecture Prize In/Arch – Ance 2014 has been awarded as the best architectural achievement of the last 5 years. The jury selected among 150 projects and considered that the New Theatre in Florence is a “public work of quality, a space for culture made with high technological standards and, above all, a significant urban renewal project.”
Sannini is proud to have had the opportunity to participate in the project with the realization of the Scenic Tower. The Studio ABDR as designer has required specific characteristics, related to the substructure and to the facing material, which had to belong to the tradition but, at the same time, to be reinterpreted in a contemporary way, taking into account different shades of color typical of Florentine marbles tradition. Therefore Sannini has “studied” a shimmed rectangular element , which has been glazed according to a process in several colors application and had as final result, a façade cladding assuming different color nuances during the day depending on the inclination of sun shining. The supporting structure has been designed as an extremely lightweight and slim element, which allowed a quick installation and will be of easy maintenance in the future.
Sannini worked in complete synergy with the architects according to its policy followed for years: to support the design, to make “architecture” through a natural and high-quality material as Cotto from Impruneta, able, while maintaining the characteristics of tradition, to support avant-garde applications with new construction technologies.
